Lancaster Pa Holiday Vacations

Have you ever thought about spending time at a bed breakfast during the holiday season? Most people don’t because they are consumed with shopping, baking cookies, and trying not to spend all their money. Now with October coming to a close, it means that the holiday season is just around the corner; even my grandmother has been pestering me about a Christmas list for awhile now! Holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas are busy times that are often focused around family gatherings. Ever thought of switching up the holiday routine and perhaps renting a luxury vacation rental for a few days? Adamstown Inns & Cottages, a Lancaster Pennsylvania bed and breakfast has the perfect accommodations for your family that should lessen your stress and help you to enjoy every one's company.

Perhaps you’re lucky and have an aunt who enjoys preparing for the holidays and makes 10 pounds of mashed potatoes and 10 different kinds of pies. Or maybe no one in your family was blessed with the homemaker gene, so you all draw straws to see who will get stuck hosting Thanksgiving each year. If you’re looking for a way out of preparing for house guests or don’t want to be stuck at your cousins who served beanie weanies for the main course one year, then perhaps your family needs a new holiday plan.

The Adamstown Vacation Home can comfortably sleep 12 guests and has a spacious living room and kitchen where everyone can help with the dinner prep. (Your cousin can even make her beanie weenies, but only as a side dish!) If you have a smaller family, or need more space you can expand into the Firefly and Dragonfly Cottages. You could even decide to have a progressive dinner and proceed to each house for a different course; how’s that for a new holiday plan? Oh, and if you just adore your family but really don’t want to spend so much time with them, rent a room at the Amethyst Inn, just up the street, for a romantic getaway.

Spending time at a luxury bed and breakfast, whether it’s on Christmas, or a week before or after should cut down on the holiday dress and even provide opportunities to family outings at Longwood Gardens or the National Christmas Center in Lancaster, Pa. If your family doesn’t like change, then keep in mind that you can have a family reunion any time of the year and Adamstown Inns & Cottages is anxiously preparing for your stay!

Lancaster's Fall Fun & Fright

Do you happen to be visiting our bed & breakfast, Amethyst Inn during October and want to make sure you don’t miss autumn festivities of Lancaster Amish Country? Every weekend there are opportunities to frolic through the Cherry Crest Adventure Farm, to learn about the ghosts of historic Lancaster, and to explore the haunted attractions at Jason’s Woods.

My favorite fall activity is the challenge of a corn maze and trying to find as many checkpoints as possible. I usually end up lost and mindlessly wandering in circles, passing the same cornstalk over and over again to the point where I start to recognize that I’ve been there before! Luckily I’ve made it out every time; usually with the help of my friends after they’ve had numerous accounts of fun scaring me in the dark. The Cherry Crest Adventure Farm, in Ronks PA, has a 5 acre corn maze where hopefully you’ll have better luck than me! There are also plenty of other activities such as a barnyard with games and a singing chicken show, as well as a courtyard with wagon tours, goats and ice cream! Every Saturday in October from 12-6 pm they are celebrating their Harvest Festival!

If you’re not a scaredy cat like me, you’ll probably enjoy Jason’s Woods and the Lancaster Ghost Tour. Jason’s Woods has eight creepy attractions such as a hayride, museum, psycho circus, and a mystery maze. Even the roads leading to the site is unnerving and the epitome of Halloween entertainment. Historic Downtown Lancaster offers a candlelight tour that explores haunted mansions, eerie graveyards, and spirits. Every night a 8 pm you’ll be able to relive the past 300 years of haunted history of Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish Country.

So whether you decide on the family adventure at the corn maze, the haunted woods, or the historical ghost tour, Lancaster has an adventure for everyone. After a day on the farm or an evening among the ghosts, you’ll be relieved to the return to the Amethyst Inn, a Lancaster Pennsylvania bed and breakfast, for a relaxing and safe nights rest.

Adamstown Inns & Cottages offers a luxury bed and breakfast, a large vacation home, and smaller cottages so that you’ll find the perfect accommodations to make your girlfriends getaway relaxing. Think of it as a home away from home where you don’t have to worry about scrubbing the toilets or dusting before all your friends come over.

Located in between Lancaster and Reading, your opportunities are endless for shopping, touring wineries, relaxing at the spa, and trying new cuisines. In addition to local antique shops and farmers markets, Lancaster has both Rockvale and Tanger Outlets while Reading has the Vanity Fair Outlets. There are 6 wineries located around the inn that can be a real treat for sampling wines, or just touring the vineyards. Local art galleries, history museums, and antique shops can also be fun with your group of girls. Visit the area information page on our website for more specific information and other local activities.

Make sure to start planning your getaway so that you can be relaxed, especially before all the holiday bustle starts. (I know it still seems like a few months away, but my local grocery store already started putting out the Christmas decorations!) A weekend visiting a Lancaster Pennsylvania bed and breakfast, along with a tour of the Amish, will be sure to restore your sanity and rejuvenate your body before returning to your busy lives.
