WWII Weekend near Lancaster, PA

As you walk down the runway, the sounds and smells of war surround you. You are taken back to a time that will live forever throughout our history. What event are we talking about? World War Two weekend at the Mid Atlantic Air Museum in Reading Pa, will be taking place the weekend of June 3-5. Located near Adamstown Inns & Cottages, a Lancaster PA bed and breakfast, you will travel back in time to experience first hand, what the “greatest generation” endured.

Be prepared to experience the insight of guest speakers, live world war 2 reenacting, world war 2 planes (including rides), and a taste of life in a combat zone. From Europe to the Pacific, reenactors from all over the world, come together to appreciate the rich history of this memorable period of world war ii. The aviation museum is open to showcase weapons, uniforms, equipment, veterans groups, and models. You’ll still hear the tanks and artillery pieces being fired outside, but you’ll be safe from the opposing forces.

You will span the world war 2 timeline as you experience battles and skirmishes in the French Village, visit encampments, and shop the military flea market for weapons, uniforms, and 40s era clothing (original and reproduction). Many people buy outfits to dress up for the big dance in the hangar come Friday and Saturday evenings. Once the radio shows turn to music, you’ll forget that you’re in Berks County, and be transported back to the 40’s for a swinging good time!

There’s no doubt that you’ll learn lots about world war two history while having fun! However, you will need your rest, at a luxury bed and breakfast, each evening before returning to the encampments of the second world war.

Musical May

As they say, “April showers bring May flowers”, and Longwood Gardens does have plenty of flowers! More importantly, May is filled with musical performances that will have you dancing around Lancaster County. Each performance is accompanied by other treats, such as shopping at Ten Thousand Villages or downtown Lancaster, flowers at Longwood Gardens, wine at the Tamanend Winery, and dinner at Rosa Rosa Ristorante Italiano. All of this musical entertainment is located near the Adamstown Inns & Cottages, a Lancaster Pennsylvania bed and breakfast.

The Cafe at Ten Thousand Villages features different musicians each week. On Friday May 20, there will be live music in the cafe with Ed and Maureen Mashas.  Don’t forget to visit thee 10 000 villages store, where they sell hand-made, fair trade gifts and home decor. Another shopping opportunity is in downtown Lancaster during Music Friday. The third Friday of every month, music can be heard throughout the entire city! Friday night music, May 20th, will feature Rock and Roll with John King Dance Band & the Snake Oil Trio.

The American Music Theatre begins Andrew Lloyd Weber: Music of the Night, on Friday May 13. This Pa theatre will use Weber’s songs from the musicals, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Cats, and many more to bring the stage to life. The American music theater is well known for their fantastic performances and I highly recommend seeing one of their their live shows.

Late night jazz is another exciting way to enjoy music in Lancaster County.  The Rosa Rosa Ristorante Italiano has musicians every weekend, and a fantastic dinner menu! The Belvedere Inn also host late night jazz on the Weekends.  This weekend will feature Tom Pontz Project on Friday and Sonia V Trio on Saturday.

With the many musical options in Lancaster County, you will be able to find a genre or activity that interests you. After listening to music out on the town, feel free to put on soft music as you relax in your jacuzzi tub, or drift off to sleep at the Amethyst Inn, a luxury bed and breakfast in Lancaster, Pa.

Spring Time at Maple Grove

After seeing all the pictures of flowers and the gardens at a Lancaster PA bed and breakfast, I’m sure you’re trying to hatch a plan to get your husband to bring you for a romantic weekend getaway. I have great news, because it won’t be as hard as you think, as long as you’re willing to let him have his fun too.  Maple Grove Raceway is only a short drive from the Amethyst Inn.  So after a gourmet breakfast and a brisk morning stroll through the gardens, you can head over to the raceway for a day of racing.

This Pennsylvania drag strip begins its fan series with the ADRL Penske Truck sponsored race. Qualifying takes place all day Friday and on Saturday morning with eliminations Saturday afternoon. Both nights there will be jet car and monster truck runs. You won’t want to miss this event, especially since it’s free and you will only need to pay for parking!

Pontiacs will be at the Grove on Sunday May 22, with both a car show and races. The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series is the weekend of May 27 and even has fireworks on Saturday night. Drag racing has always intrigued me, because of the precise timing needed when that light turns green! I’m sure you have a favorite part of racing, whether it’s the sound of the engine, the speed of the cars, or the crowd going wild... This speedway has it all, so don’t miss the many events throughout the summer. In later months, the Grove is hosting MOPAR Action on June 25-26 and the Super Chevy Show on July 15-17.

With events planned throughout the entire year, you have plenty of opportunities to sneak away to Adamstown PA for a stay at a luxury bed and breakfast. The soft bedding and jacuzzi tubs will be a nice treat after a long (and noisy) day in the sun. Let yourself be pampered while your significant other recalls the best moments of the races that day! If you have a large family that’s interested in racing, then rent one of our vacation homes or cottages for a weekend. Start your engines and begin planning your trip to the races today!
