Berks Jazz Fest

I've mentioned before that the arts are abundant in Lancaster County, but our neighbors to the north in Berks County have a great celebration of the arts in the month of March. While Goggleworks and the Sovereign Center are always hosting events, March is especially known for the Berks Jazz Festival. As always, if you happen to be traveling with someone who prefers a bit more adventure, Reading does have many other activities that are perfect for them. This year, the Jazz Festival will be held March 23-April 1. If you’re a fan of blues, pop, or swing, then you won’t want to miss this! Their website has an abundance of information, so I’ll refer you there for the schedule of concerts and events, as well as any news from their blog.
Goggleworks, the Reading Art Studio & Theater, will be hosting an opening reception for the Jazz Fest on Friday March 2nd.Performances by the Greg Wilson Quartet and some Muhlenberg High musicians are sure to please with this Art of Jazz program. This might seem like late notice, but perhaps you’re already visiting the Inns this weekend and are looking for something to do. If this isn't the case, then just remember that Goggleworks has many other offerings. They continue to host First Fridays and Second Sunday events, and they always have new films playing in the theater.  If you do happen to be visiting this weekend, there are many more events to keep you busy. Kutztown is hosting their 8th Annual Big Band Bash on Friday This year, the Jazz Festival will be held March 23-April 1. If you’re a fan of blues, pop, or swing, then you won’t want to miss this! Their website has an abundance of information, so I’ll refer
you there for the schedule of concerts and events, as well as any news from their blog. Also, Penn’s Corridor, hosts First Friday celebrations as well as Thursdays on Penn. Every week you can explore the shops, attractions, and restaurants in the entertainment hub of Reading. To change things up, you can visit Blue Marsh Lake for a hike or bird walk lead by a ranger, or you can grab a map and explore on your own. The Reading Royals are finishing their ice hockey season this month, so there are a couple games left to catch. If you have the kids along, they’ll enjoy go karts, laser tag, rock climbing, and more at Ozzy’s Family Fun Center.

And if the spring happens to come sooner than expected, float down the Schuylkill River with the Reading River Tribe. With all the events happening this March in Reading, you’ll want to plan your trip soon, to make sure your favorite bed and breakfast, Adamstown Inns & Cottages, has availability for you!
