Dutch Wonderland

Dutch Wonderland lists themselves as a family friendly place and lives up to that billing. Just 30 minutes away from Adamstown Inns and Cottages, your family will be greeted by Duke, the purple dragon, upon arrival. There’s a Prince and Princess of Dutch Wonderland (DW) that walk around, talk to your children and allow pictures to be taken. Our four-year-old granddaughter was thrilled to meet a real princess, and was even more excited for all the rides!

DW has a diamond rating system that clearly shows the height requirement for each ride. They have the traditional train, merry-go-round, boat, and monorail rides, and even a hand-powered train called Choo Choo Charlie. Boys especially will love Duke’s Dozers, Sky Fighters and the Off-Road Rally ride. Our granddaughter’s favorite two rides were Huck Finn’s Leapin’ Frogs and the Silo Slide, a barn silo with a slide that winds around it. She even got to milk a (plastic) cow and ring the bell on a one room school house.

Take a break from the rides, and choose from a plethora of exciting shows! You’ll want to plan your day, so check the schedule and choose your favorites. Bubba Bear and the Badland Band is an animated country jamboree that will get everyone singing. A duo singing team, Safari Sam and Jungle Jenny, will take the kids on an interactive safari hunt. The family will be engrossed with this team! There is also diving show called The Adventures of the Frog Prince. It is a first class funny water show that will get some of the audience wet.

Don’t forget to take your swimming suit as they have Duke’s Lagoon, a splash park. It’s a great place to cool off in the many sprays and fountains, and remember to take sunscreen as items are not cheap. There is no outside food allowed in the park, but a picnic area is located outside the park that offers many healthy kid’s choices of food.

DW is best enjoyed by families with children from ages 4 to 12. However, we had our 18 month old granddaughter with us and she was able to ride the family rides, enjoy the shows and watch the fun. Don’t forget a stroller, your reservations at the Firefly or Dragonfly Cottage, and a little planning in order to have a great day!

Baseball Season in Lancaster PA

It’s that time of the year for peanuts and cracker jacks, so come visit us here at the Bed and Breakfast and root for the home teams. Adamstown is located in between the Lancaster Barnstormers and the Reading Phillies, so there are plenty of opportunities to catch a baseball game this summer.

The Phillies play at First Energy Stadium and have fireworks most weekends after the game. They also have many theme nights and promotional giveaways throughout the season. Here are a few to keep in mind:

  • Post game concert on May 31st
  • Giveaway on June 5th: Crazy Hot Dog Vendor BBQ Apron
  • A visit from the Phillie Phanatic on July 1st
  • Giveaway on August 25th: Reading Phils Harley baseball cap

Sounds like some great evenings are scheduled, but you might be wondering what the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor is, right? He is a mascot of the Reading Phillies that arrives during the second inning and throws hot dogs into the stands. He wears a bow tie and rides an ostrich named Rodrigo, which makes for a lively performance! Fans adore the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor, and you’ll have to go to a game to see what the craze is all about.

In Lancaster County, you can catch the Barnstormers at Clipper Magazine Stadium. While their mascot isn’t as famous, they do have a red cow named Cylo that gets the crowd mooooving! Here are a few special events to keep in mind for the season:
  • June 2: Star Wars themed fireworks
  • June 21: Toy Story night with appearances from Buzz and Woody
  • July 22: Christmas in July
  • August 24: Elvis themed fireworks

Plan your trip and get your tickets today so you can watch the visiting teams strike out, and cheer our home teams to victory!

Mother's Day in Lancaster County, PA

Hopefully you haven’t waited as long as I have to think about a gift for Mother’s Day, but if you have, then don’t worry because Adamstown Inns & Cottages has you covered! We still have a couple rooms available this weekend, as well as our vacation home. So whether you bring the whole family, send your mom and dad, or just make it a girls trip, there are plenty of activities this weekend geared towards moms personality.

For moms who like to garden, grab tickets for the Herb and Garden Faire on Friday May 11th and Saturday May 12th. The Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum will be hosting over 80 vendors and food stands. Wander through the gardens, get advice from experts, and purchase plants and other gardening trinkets. And don’t forget to enjoy the Adamstown gardens in the evening!

If your mom is an art connoisseur, spend Saturday at Elizabethtown Community Park for their annual Arts in the Park Festival. Visit over 40 vendors, enjoy the live music, and let your kids try their artistic ability at crafts in the children’s area.

If mom has a sweet tooth, take her to the Good Cooking Store for a Whoopie Pie Wonders Class. You’ll learn how to make a few different recipes, but the best part is when you get to sample your creations!

Stoudt’s is hosting their Anniversary Weekend to celebrate milestones in the restaurant, antique mall, and brewery. Sample new beers, peruse the antique market, and enjoy dinner in their restaurant. If mom would prefer wine over beer, then take her to the Strasburg Railroad on Saturday. They are hosting a wine and cheese train ride through Paradise, PA!

And finally if your mom loves music, there are many options in addition to the entertainment at the festivals this weekend. The Temptations & Four Tops will be at the American Music Theater on Saturday night. Then on Sunday, May 13th, a Country Classics performance will be held especially for moms. You won’t want to miss this because moms get in FREE!

Since it is last minute, and you might already have brunch reservations, you can always get mom a gift certificate to the Amethyst Inn, or plan a trip with her. There are always activities for everyone in Lancaster County, so you’re sure to have a blast even if you can’t stay with us this weekend. Happy Mother’s Day!
