As you plan your last summer vacation before school starts, don’t forget that Adamstown Inns and Cottages is family friendly! We offer 3 cottages, depending on the size of your family and your needs. The Dragonfly Cottage has 2 bedrooms and 1 ½ baths with space to sleep up to 6 people. The Firefly Cottage has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, which can sleep a maximum of 7 people. Both cottages have a full kitchen, living room, and dining area, as well as a shared hot tub in the gardens. Our largest vacation home is the Adamstown Inn. With 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, you can bring family and friends, up to 12 people! And remember that all of our cottages are pet friendly.
With the entire family in tow, you won’t have to worry about keeping the kids occupied in Lancaster County. Here’s a couple suggestions for some new outdoor activities.
If you’ve got a little girl who is still asking for a pony for her birthday, then make sure to visit Willow Creek Farm for a great trail ride.
. You’ll receive a tour of the facility, hear stories about the horses, learn proper grooming techniques, and be led on a pony ride.
The High Sports Family Fun Center in Lititz will be fun for the entire family. Their main attraction is a 20 hole miniature golf course featuring 30 waterfalls. After practicing your putting skills, head to the driving range or the batting cages. Then finish your adventure with a race on their 1.25 mile go kart track!
For a high flying activity, visit the Refreshing Mountain Camp for their zip line canopy tour. Harnessed in at 60 feet in the air, you’ll “fly” through the trees between platforms. If you’re feeling brave, spend some time on their high rope elements before feeling the relief of solid ground. The camp also has a public swimming pool and a climbing tower. Make sure to call and make a reservation for all activities to ensure proper safety and staffing. And if you’re having too much fun to stop for lunch, just order a picnic lunch and enjoy it under the shade.
All of these activities are within 30 minutes of the bed and breakfast, giving you the option to try all of them during one trip. But if you don’t get to try them all, then you’ll have a great excuse to visit us again here in Lancaster County!

While mini golfing, baseball games, and flea markets are fun and entertaining, they sometimes become too commonplace in families and lose the spark that once made them special outings. This week I’ve challenged myself to find unusual activities that are sure to spice up your vacation! Focusing on Berks County, these activities are a short drive from Adamstown Inns and Cottages.
Let’s start with movie deals, which are perfect for rainy days, or days with high humidity! The R/C Reading Theatre and IMAX Theatre are hosting a FREE Family Film Festival all summer long. All movies start at 10am, so check the schedule for the movies that you don’t want to miss.
With all the light pollution in cities, it’s a real treat when you’re able to view the stars in the night sky. On Saturday, July 21, and August 18, stop by Blue Marsh Lake around dusk for a short talk about the stars. Once it’s dark enough, you’ll be able to use telescopes for a better view of the stars.
Hikes are a favorite activity of mine, especially when there are great overlooks at the top. Hawk Mountain is a beautiful hike, but they’ve just made it even better! They’ve added storytellers to guided walks on Wednesday mornings at 11am. Each week, you’ll learn something different, and even discover new animals and surroundings atop the mountain.
I’ve saved my favorite for last... Pretzel twisting lessons at Tom Sturgis Pretzels! That’s right; you’ll learn the history of pretzels, enjoy free samples, and then learn how to make your own pretzels. Available every Monday from 11am-1pm, this FREE interactive lesson is sure to have you laughing about your amateur pretzel skills. And since it’s free, you’ll have more money to spend in their store and enjoy pretzels at home!
Hopefully these activities inspire you to visit us in Lancaster County and tell us what your new favorite activity is! And be sure to search around your hometown for new adventures as well!
