Spring Time at Maple Grove

After seeing all the pictures of flowers and the gardens at a Lancaster PA bed and breakfast, I’m sure you’re trying to hatch a plan to get your husband to bring you for a romantic weekend getaway. I have great news, because it won’t be as hard as you think, as long as you’re willing to let him have his fun too.  Maple Grove Raceway is only a short drive from the Amethyst Inn.  So after a gourmet breakfast and a brisk morning stroll through the gardens, you can head over to the raceway for a day of racing.

This Pennsylvania drag strip begins its fan series with the ADRL Penske Truck sponsored race. Qualifying takes place all day Friday and on Saturday morning with eliminations Saturday afternoon. Both nights there will be jet car and monster truck runs. You won’t want to miss this event, especially since it’s free and you will only need to pay for parking!

Pontiacs will be at the Grove on Sunday May 22, with both a car show and races. The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series is the weekend of May 27 and even has fireworks on Saturday night. Drag racing has always intrigued me, because of the precise timing needed when that light turns green! I’m sure you have a favorite part of racing, whether it’s the sound of the engine, the speed of the cars, or the crowd going wild... This speedway has it all, so don’t miss the many events throughout the summer. In later months, the Grove is hosting MOPAR Action on June 25-26 and the Super Chevy Show on July 15-17.

With events planned throughout the entire year, you have plenty of opportunities to sneak away to Adamstown PA for a stay at a luxury bed and breakfast. The soft bedding and jacuzzi tubs will be a nice treat after a long (and noisy) day in the sun. Let yourself be pampered while your significant other recalls the best moments of the races that day! If you have a large family that’s interested in racing, then rent one of our vacation homes or cottages for a weekend. Start your engines and begin planning your trip to the races today!

Maple Grove Raceway

Racing events always remind me of when I was young and my dad took me to a race track a few times. I don’t remember much besides wearing ear plugs and buying a huge bucket of KFC to take with us so that we didn’t have to pay for the expensive food, but I do know that I had a lot of fun! Maple Grove, however; holds different memories as I was there within the past few years to watch some high school friends race their cars on a “High School Contest” weekend. Being my first experience at a drag strip, I was blown away by the smoke from the cars and the speed at which they raced. All I could think about was how important it was to leave the starting point as soon as that light turned green! I have a fairly slow reaction time, so I’m not sure drag racing would be the best sport for me to take up...

Anyways, these memories of mine have been conjured up from the news of upcoming events at the Maple Grove Raceway. On July 2-3, Geezers Reunion at the Grove will be taking place. This event focuses around the nostalgia of drag racing and what dragsters looked and sounded like many years ago. An interesting part of the weekend is Cacklefest, which highlights the sounds of the old cars while being paraded down the track. There will also be a Cavalcade of Funny Cars, sportsman racing classes, a car show, and of course elimination races. The weekend ends with a rousing fireworks display. When I first heard the name of this event, I just couldn’t figure out what it was about, but it really sounds like it’s going to be a blast from the past!

The other big event on July 16-18 is the Super Chevy Show. While it brings out many die-hard Chevy lovers, everyone is welcome to attend this show! The bracket racing will be the highlight of the weekend, as this is one of the biggest races for those who have invested their careers in the Super Chevy series. A swap meet and car show will also be a part of this extravagant weekend.

From my experiences I remember being drained after a long day in the sun at the races. Wouldn’t a nice air conditioned room, comfortable bed, and relaxing bath in a jacuzzi tub be a nice way to relax after a day at the racetrack? Conveniently, Adamstown Inns & Cottages is located just 15 minutes away from Maple Grove Raceway and will facilitate a refreshing weekend so you won’t miss any of the races. Hopefully you’ll be able to create some memorable moments while finding new insights into the sport of drag racing... Oh, and don’t forget the sun block!

Maple Grove Raceway

In just 16 short days the 25th annual Toyo Tires Nationals will take place at the Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, PA. On August 20-23 the National Hot Rod Association is returning to Maple Grove Raceway for another thrilling weekend of cars reaching extreme speeds, the sweet aroma of burning rubber, and the cool August sun. We've enjoyed the company of many guests who spent their nights with us and their days at the racetrack. You never know what might happen at the Maple Grove Raceway. In fact, you may even be one of the lucky few who brings home an over sized worn tire as a souvenir like our buddies from Mass- achusetts did last year. This group stayed in our Dragonfly Cottage and Firefly Cottage and really enjoyed themselves. Actually, we at the Inns are counting down those 16 days until the Conry crew stays with us again for the Toyo Tires Nationals. When the gang from Massachusetts rolls into town we always know it is August. We're looking forward to another great weekend.
